The Canadian hosts
September 28, 2024
The Canadian team includes government ministers, educators, school board members and trade unionists. In Ontario, the team is led by Ralph Cuthbertson, a former Superintendent of Education with the Toronto District School Board.
Meetings have been arranged with:
Andrew Davis, Assistant Deputy Minister. Assistant Deputy Minister, Education Labour and Finance Division
Rashmi Swarup, Peel District School Board Director
Cathy Montreuil, Deputy Minister, Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and former vice-principal, principal, superintendent, and Director of Education.
Doris McWorter is the former Director of the Education Research and Evaluation Strategy Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Education and a champion of research capacity building, knowledge mobilization and collaborative partnerships between education researchers and practitioners across Ontario.
Alison Osborne and Nadine Trepanier-Bisson from the Ontario Principals Council.

In Ottawa, the itinerary has been prepared by Andy Hargreaves, Visiting Professor at the University of Ottawa in Canada, former Adviser in Education to the Premier of Ontario and current adviser to the First Minister of Scotland.

Tom D’Amico, Director of Education with the Ottawa Catholic School Board who has been recognized with the Prime Minister’s Award for teaching excellence and named as one of Canada’s Outstanding Principals.
Jean-Paul Cloutier, Principal, Notre Dame High School, considered a leading school for challenge-based learning and has initiated an alternative to suspension policy
Pino Buffone, Director of Education at Ottawa-Carleton District School Board
Stéphane Vigneault, founder and co-ordinator for Quebec education campaign group, Mouvement L’école ensemble which aims to tackle the education segregation that is at the heart of education in the Canadian province of Quebec.
In Vancouver, the team’s host is Kit Krieger, former Superintendent of Appeals at the British Columbia Ministry of Education. He has spent 49 years in the BC public school system.
The team will meet with:
Charles Ungerleider, Professor Emeritus at UBC and former Deputy Minister of Education for British Columbia. He champions public education.
Carolyn Broady is a trustee and board chair in West Vancouver and president of the British Columbia School Trustees Association.
Suzanne Hoffman, CEO of the British Columbia School Trustees Association and a former teacher, administrator and superintendent.
Teresa Downs, Superintendent of Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows School District and a former director of instruction and school principal.
Dr Andree Gacoin, Director of Research for the British Columbia Teachers Federation.
Magdalena Kassis, Acting Executive Director of the BC Principals’ & Vice-Principals’ Association
Dr. Shannon Behan, the 2024-2026 President of the BCPVPA.
