Achieving inclusive, equitable and quality education for all by 2030
Describing what it typically looks like for learners to move from early to more advanced knowledge, skills and understanding is critical to monitoring learning. The GEM Centre, founded by ACER, has been supporting countries to monitor and report progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goal – SDG4 – for more than a decade. This special feature shows how learning is being monitored and progressed.
How do public and private schools differ in OECD countries?
Private schools around the world cater for around 1 in 5 students from pre-primary to the end of secondary education, a share that has not changed materially since 2015. Although their students achieved better results in PISA 2022 in many countries, this is mainly because they enrol more students from advantaged socio-economic backgrounds than their public counterparts. The main challenge in many countries today is to increase the social mix in public and private schools, which is why many efforts have been made in this direction over the past decade.
OECD Survey on Social and Emotional Skills
The latest OECD Survey on Social and Emotional Skills found that curiosity and persistence are correlated to academic success. Students with these skills were also more likely to be ambitious and satisfied with their lives overall. Learn more about how social and emotional skills correlate to student success and well-being.
Ending the capital divide in school funding
